There was an error while copying to the Clipboard. An internal error occurred.

Problem

When you highlight text in Adobe Reader, you get the error:
“There was an error while copying to the Clipboard. An internal error occurred.”

Cause

There is a conflict with the Skype Add-on for Internet Explorer.

Solution

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Enable or Disable Add-ons.
  3. In the list, click on Skype once.
  4. Underneath, click the Disable radio button.
  5. Click OK.
  6. A message may appear saying you need to restart Internet Explorer. Click OK.
  7. Close Internet Explorer.

  1. This works for less than 1 line (even though IE and Skype were not active). However, copying across a line break still produces the same message. PDF files from all sources. I don’t recall this happening before I updated to Reader v.8; it still happens in Reader X.

  2. Problem is, my Internet Explorer (v8.0.6001.18702) does not have an Enable or Disable Add-ons option and working through the list of Add-ons, there is no Skype Add-on. How do I solve the problem now?

  3. in windows 7

    start-control panel-uninstall programs

uninstall the “Skype Click to Call”, this will uninstall addins from ie, firefox, you dont have to uninstall skype.

in ie and firefox you can disable addons but can not uninstall them using ie or firefox interface, when you uninstall Skype Click to Call, it will remove it from all added browsers.

    This works me now.

  4. I noted that I only had this issue while IE was open. When I closed IE the issue would resolve. I did not have the Skype addon in IE, but I did disable NameCtrl Class addon and the copy to clipboard error was no longer an issue.

This issue was on Windows 7 with:
    Adobe Reader X version 10.1.4
    IE 9 version 9.0.8112.16241
    NameCtrl Class version 14.0.6009.1000

  5. For me, disabling “Skype Click to Call” did not help, uninstalling finally solved the problem. Many thanks for the fix!

  6. This worked 4 me but only aftr i disabled in all ie,chrome and firefox.(need both of those for running other apps…..)

  7. skype isn’t installed on my computer and the IE add on isn’t either. I get the message when copying from an pdf.

  8. My experience is that Babylon Dictionary was causing this error. With Babylon version 10 acrobat does not give that kind of error anymore, on windows 7 x64, but previous version leftover files may cause this error again even if you remove previous versions and install version 10. With a clean install of windows 7 x64 with Babylon dictionary version 10 there is no error anymore. Uninstalling previous versions of Babylon using third party uninstalling software like Revo or Uninstall Tool may help without reinstalling Windows.

  9. I’ve got this problem with Adobe Reader 8.0 on Win XP SP3. It occurs only if I run Adobe Reader and FlashGet 1.73 at the same time, when I disable FlashGet the error disappears.
Solution: go Tools\Options\Monitor: disable “Monitor” or close FlashGet.

Perhaps that problem occurs when a conflict arises when Reader is running with some applications which use some clipboard’s options (auto-monitor as in FlshGet).

  10. Just right click on the Adobe Reader X, click on “troubleshoot compatibility” and then choose “try recommended setting”, then “always open with safe mode disabled”, save this setting.
      the problem will be solved.
