Mouse double clicks when you single click files

Problem

When single clicking a folder or file it opens or runs, instead of selecting or highlighting.

Cause

The folder options are set to open on single click.

Solution

Windows XP

  1. Click “Start”.
  2. Click “My Computer”.
  3. Click “Tools” (at the top) and Click “Folder Options”.
  4. Under “Click items as follows”, check the “Double-click to open an item (single click to select)” Radio button.
  5. Click “Apply”.
  6. Click “OK”.

Windows Vista

  1. Click the Start orb.
  2. In the start search text box type “Folder Options”.
  3. Press “Enter/Return”.
  4. Click the “General” Tab.
  5. Under “Click items as follows” check the “Double-click to open an item (single click to select)” Radio button.
  6. Click “Apply”.
  7. Click “OK”.

Windows 7

  1. Click the Start orb.
