Restoring Google as your default search engine in Google Chrome

Problem

If you have deleted Google from your default search engine in Google Chrome then you will need to re-add this back by following the instructions below:

Solution

  1. Right click on the address bar at the top and select “Edit search engines…”
  2. In the “Other search engines” table, scroll down to the bottom (depending on how many alternative search engines you have) until you see the option to “Add a new search engine”
  3. Type in the following details:
  • Name – Google
  • Keyword – Google.com
  • URL – Copy and paste the text below:

{google:baseURL}search?q=%s&{google:RLZ}{google:acceptedSuggestion}{google:originalQueryForSuggestion}{google:assistedQueryStats}{google:searchFieldtrialParameter}{google:searchClient}{google:sourceId}{google:instantExtendedEnabledParameter}ie={inputEncoding}

  • Scroll to the right of your new search engine and select “Make Default”
