Audio output from text to speech application comes out of an incorrect Audio device.

Problem

In applications such as Texthelp Read&Write where a text to speech platform is used (an application that reads the screen),  The audio is either not audible or is able to be heard from an incorrect audio source (headset instead of speakers or vice-versa).

Cause

Some text to speech application use built in text to speech engines and speech application programming interface (SAPI), This application can be placed on a specific audio device.

Solution

Select the audio device you want the speech to come from manual; To do this follow the instructions below:

Windows XP

  1. press “Windows + R” type control and click OK.
  2. On the left hand side click switch to classic view.
  3. Find the “Speech” icon and open it.
  4. At the bottom of the window click the “Audio output…” button.
  5. Make sure the correct device is selected (this may be the default or you may want to set it to a specific device).
  6. Click OK.

Windows Vista,7 and 8/8.1

  1. Press “Windows + R” type control and click OK.
  2. On the top right change the “view by” to large or small icons.
  3. Find the “Speech” icon and open it.
  4. At the bottom of the window click the “Advanced” button.
  5. Make sure the correct device is selected (this may be the default or you may want to set it to a specific device).
  6. Click OK.
