The Add-in “Kaspersky Mail Checker” cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook

This article applies to Outlook 2007.

Problem

When you open Outlook you get the following message:
“The Add-in “Kaspersky Mail Checker” cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook”.

Solution

The easiest way to fix this error is to disable the Add-in altogether. If you don’t wish to use it or have uninstalled Kaspersky and still receive this message then do the following:

  1. Open Outlook 2007.
  2. Go to Tools -> Trust Center -> Add-Ins
  3. At the bottom of the menu you’ll see “Manage”
  4. Select “Exchange Client Extensions” in the drop down box
  5. Select “Go”
  6. Uncheck the “Kaspersky Mail Checker”
  7. Click OK.

If you would like to keep the Add-in then follow these instructions:

  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Click the Start button (Windows XP users should then click Run).
  3. Type the following: (Change the path names depending on your version)
    regsvr32 -u “C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0\mcou.dll”
  4. Then do the same again, except this time type:
    regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0\mcou.dll”

  2. This was too helpful “i used the first solution to fix this error_disable the Add-in altogether” Kind thanks for your helpful postings.

  3. You are a genius. It worked. I almost run mad with the error message pop-up. God bless u. What use are add-ins anyway?

    1. I’ve never used it personally but I believe that it was mainly used as a SPAM filter.

  4. This works fine for the currently logged in user. For imaging/deployment we’d like to ensure that this fix applies to ALL USERS before we deploy the image. Any way to do that?

    1. Try creating a batch file to run during deployment with these commands:
(Change the folder to the correct one for your version)

      regsvr32 -u “C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012\mcou.dll”
      regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012\mcou.dll”

  5. I use office 2010 on a win 7 64, the unreg and reg again works, but I have a problem saying no email program is associate or installed. and out look does not work at all..
