Open Command Prompt as Administrator

Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator account.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, then Run.
  2. Type cmd and press Enter.

Windows Vista, 7 or newer

  1. Click the Start button.(or press the windows key on your keyboard)
  2. Type cmd (don’t press Enter).
  3. In the list, under programs you should see a file called cmd.
  4. Right click it and select Run as administrator.
  5. Click Yes or Continue.

  1. Please update this answer with instructions for getting to a cmd prompt as administrator with Win 8.1. There IS no “start” button

    (sorry for the duplicate entry … I forgot to check the “notify” box before hitting send. Maybe those check-boxes should be BEFORE the submit button?)
