Reset Printing System

Resetting the printing system can help troubleshoot problems using a printer on your Mac.

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click on Print & Fax.
  4. Right click or Ctrl+Click on the left column where the printers are listed and click Reset printing service. This will delete any printers and jobs currently on the system.
  5. Now you may re-add your printer(s). If they do not appear, then try installing the latest drivers from the printer disc or manufacturers website.

  1. saved me from calling my IT guy after my system crashed. thanks much. And he probably would have just googled the problem anyway!

  2. wow…..thanks so much! Just had my hard drive replaced (due to Apple recall) and although everything else worked on my computer after installing everything from my external hard drive, my Canon printer did not print…had error: No pages found!.
This worked!!!!! 5 minutes and wella! Done!
Thank you again, Carl Norton, for taking the time to post your solution.
You’ve made alot of frustrated people happy!

  3. Worked a treat, thank-you. This was yet another little irritation occurring after upgrading Office works. The problem only occurred with Excel.

  4. Worked great after I closed out the “system preferences” box after I did the reset. I also closed the documents I was trying to print and opened them up again and then they printed! No more “missing pages.” Thanks so much!
