“Windows Photo Viewer can’t save the changes to this picture because there’s a problem…”

Problem

In Windows, when you open a picture/photo and try to rotate the image (or make some sort of change) tou get the following error:

“Windows Photo Viewer can’t save the changes to this picture because there’s a problem with the picture’s file properties.”

This has been seen to affect iPhone users.

Solution

Please make sure you have another copy of the file first, in case the solution does not work for you.

  1. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the run dialog.
  2. Type mspaint and press Enter.
  3. Click File -> Open and open the image.
  4. Click File -> Save.
  5. Close Paint.

You should now be able to rotate the copy of the file.

  1. Is there any way to do this to more than one picture at a time? I have several pictures. Thanks.

  2. Thank you so much for the help. I don’t know why my new iphone 4S is not allowing windows picture viewer to make an changes? Is there a way that I should hold my iphone an order for it to take the pictures correctly.

    Thanks again

  3. I appreciate the credible opnion in that post Im not sure if I completely agree. There is some validness but I will save judgment until research a bit more. great post, thanks! Added to FeedBurner.

    1. Hi Salonie,
      Its as much an issue with the camera as it is an issue with photo viewer app, basically the camera you use generates a image file that photo viewer cannot manipulate. by opening it in paint then saving it again it slightly changes the format to something more windows friendly. allowing photo viewer to be able to manipulate the image.
      Hope this answers your query!
