Problem

When launching  google chrome and searching using google on google chrome you get a lot of pop ups and other advertising happening.  This happens even when there should not be any advertising.

Cause

This is commonly caused by adware on your machine.

These generally can be avoided by downloading from a manufacturer website.  also by checking what tick boxes are checked during your downloads.

In this fix we detail for Google chrome browser but this also applies to other browsers.

Solution

It is best to try and uninstall these adwares as soon as possible as they will often start to pester you with pop ups no matter what you do to buy products or direct you to websites  to purchase something you may not want and this can result in problems during normal internet usage.

  • Type: Attrib -R C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
  • Press Enter
  • Type: RD C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome /Q /S
  • Press Enter.

Note: you can select the command and right click and click copy and then right click in the command window and click paste)

This will remove the user settings and history and reset Chrome to defaults.
